Music is far more than entertainment – it is also a powerful vehicle for promoting cognitive, physical, emotional, and social well-being.
The CMH is a centre of research excellence that develops music-based interventions, research practices, and community music activities to improve lives. A special focus is placed on the use of music to improve mental health, to enhance students’ quality of life, and to support the aging population.
Situated in the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, one of the leading conservatories in Asia, and embedded within the top-tier research ecosystem of the National University of Singapore, the CMH is uniquely positioned to combine both artistic and scientific excellence in its work. By capitalising on both the Conservatory’s high level of musicianship and the University’s research-intensive practices, the Center is able to:
Develop cutting-edge, interdisciplinary translational research methods and evidence-based approaches in music;
Deploy high quality music-making in health and well-being contexts; and
Bring students from different backgrounds together to work towards impactful interventions and community programmes that improve health and well-being on and off campus.
